Contact one of the chairs at any of the following committees to get involved.
Businesswoman of the Year Award (BYA) Gala Committee
The BYA Committee, working with a professional Event Planner, is responsible for the Businesswoman of the Year Awards Gala - the WBN’s premiere event. We secure BYA-specific sponsorships, and plan all aspects of the gala evening from staging, décor, and food to music, VIPs, Emcee, gifts and prizes. Once the Nominating and Awards Committee has announced the nine Finalists, the BYA Committee coordinates the Finalist - Sponsor Reception, numerous media interviews, photographs and videos. The committee works with the communications committee, KISS 105.3, Rogers Television, Ottawa Business Journal, and Metroland Media to market and provide media coverage. The year-long gala planning cycle culminates in April with one of Ottawa’s premier business award events.
Businesswoman of the Year Award (BYA) Nominations Committee
The Nominating/Awards committee has the exciting mandate of helping to increase the profile of the WBN members through recognition of their achievements. The committee also encourages members to develop their leadership skills through participation on the WBN Board and plays a role in celebrating the success of all women in business via the Businesswoman of the Year Award (BYA). We learn about amazing businesswomen in our network and in Ottawa, solicit recognition from other organizations for our talented members, and help plan a great celebration of the success of businesswomen. WBN also sponsors three annual scholarships for female students in recognition of their scholastic and leadership achievements.
The Mentorship Committee is for emerging and mid-level entrepreneurs/ corporate professionals who are seeking skills, development and personal/professional growth. Members will be paired with an experienced local mentor who is an established entrepreneur or senior-level corporate professional (as applicable).
The Membership Committee Members are natural ambassadors of the WBN, encouraging prospective members, welcoming new members, and inspiring current members. We are passionate about building the WBN community and guiding our members to become active leaders who support, promote, empower and recognize each other’s accomplishments. Consider the Membership Committee the point of contact for all members to maximize their time with the WBN and all membership benefits.
The Events Committee is responsible for the planning and execution of the WBN's monthly events. We contribute to the Vision of the WBN by delivering events that inspire the "personal and professional development of our members, meeting their needs at the right time in the right way."
