President’s Message on – Love

The month of February starts with Groundhog Day, followed by Valentine’s Day and ends with my birthday. This year without a doubt Punxsutawney Phil and Shubenacadie Sam saw their shadows which according to tradition means another six more weeks of winter. Although Wiarton Willie did not see his shadow, he was operating under a heavy cloud with blowing snow in the forecast. Even if you don’t believe in these furry prognosticators, it helps me (and I presume others) to cope with the next snow storm which is around the corner and to believe that in a month and a half, spring will be on its way.

The theme for the month of February is “Love” which is very à propos since Valentine’s Day is the next event in the month. When I first read Steve Job’s, the cofounder of Apple Inc., quote on finding “loving”, it resonated with me because I believe that if you are truly doing what you love to do both in your professional and your personal lives, then it is not work. What you are doing is something that brings you joy and happiness. Also the contrary is true. If you are not having fun doing what you are doing, then maybe it is time to stop and find what gives you joy. Below is the quote from Steve Job:

You’ve got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle…

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

I hope these words inspire you to continue to find what you love and not to settle until you find it.

Don’t miss the February “Hockey and Heel” event at the Canadian Tire Centre on Thursday February 12, 2015.
