This project incorporates the MBA mentorship program currently in place at the Telfer School of Management and includes a WBN component.

  • Well-connected in the city and/or other cities in Canada

New Ambassador Program Opportunity!

WBN is excited to be launching an Ambassador program.  While the Mentorship program has more of an external focus where members support individuals and groups outside of WBN, the Ambassador program is more internal, designed to support members and those new to WBN. If being a WBN Ambassador is of interest to you, and you would like to learn more about getting involved and how you and others will benefit, please contact  Susan Dagg Fulton 613 790 1289.

Ready, Set Engage!

In 2014 WBN resolves to increase engagement in the membership. We have some great new initiatives we’re going to use to make this community an even better resource for you. Once a month on the blog there will be a member featured in a Follow Friday post helping you learn more about your fellow members and connect with them on social channels.

The first Follow Friday post showcased Karen Wilson of Wellman Wilson Consulting who will be hosting the first monthly Twitter chat on January 16. The first chat will focus on helping newcomers to social media use those platforms for their business. Join us by following @WBN_Ottawa and the hashtag #WBNTwitterChat between 8 and 9 pm.

If you have any suggestions for other ways we can engage with you please let us know.

WBN Member Minute: Susan Sykes

susan_sykes_(2).jpgSusan Sykes is an interior decorator and proud owner of one of the Ottawa area’s five local Decorating Den Interiors franchises.

Susan gives Ottawa homeowners a truly unique decorating experience. “Trying to pull together a room by going from store to store can be overwhelming and time consuming,” she says. “Decorating should be fun!” After a complimentary design consultation, Susan is able to select the perfect furniture, area rugs, window treatments and accessories for her clients from over 100 top quality suppliers. She offers a full range of decorating services, including space planning, colour consultations, custom upholstery and total project management including delivery and installation of all furniture and accessories.

In designing beautiful spaces for her clients, Susan draws on a lifelong passion for interior decorating and over 12 years of professional experience in marketing communications, public relations, and creative project management. “I love being a decorator because I get to be inspired every single day,” says Susan.

As an additional creative outlet and a way to share her design expertise, Susan teamed up with her friend Meredith Newberry to create the popular Ottawa blog Newberry Sykes (www.newberrysykes.com). “Our posts include inspiring house tours, DIY projects we’re tackling, design lessons, and tips on where to shop for stylish home goods in Ottawa,” says Susan. The blog gets over 3,000 page views every month and Meredith and Susan were recently featured in an Ottawa Citizen article on holiday decorating.

An Ottawa native, Susan recently spent a year and a half living in the Pittsburgh area with her husband and two children. When she’s not flipping through fabric samples and keeping up on the latest design trends, she can often be found power-walking along the streets of Stittsville or cheering on her son’s hockey team.
