WBN events are THE place to meet and network with some of the most dynamic, forward thinking businesswomen in Ottawa. Here’s what’s coming up:
High Tea Social with Lamira Billings
July 15, 2014
July Breakfast Mix & Mingle at urban element
July 23, 2014
Have you thought about joining the WBN but have not had a chance to connect? Do you find larger networking events intimidating? Join us for our monthly breakfast Mix & Mingle for a whole new experience.
In September, at our annual AGM, the WBN will be collecting goods for one of our designated charities, My First Suit. My First Suit is an organization that assists women in making a suitable first impression. We are seeking your help to collect the following items:
- Suits, blouses, pants and dresses ( they is a high need for size 12 and up),
- Bras (new or gently used),
- pantyhose ( all sizes – new),
- Shoes (all sizes- new & gently used),
- Purses (new and gently used),
- Jewelry (new and gently used),
- Underwear (new – please leave tags on), and
- Gift cards ( La Sensa, Victoria Secret, Addition-elle or women’s clothing stores).
This is a perfect time to go through your closets and to give away those items that you no longer wish to have on hand. The WBN is an amazing organization seeking to inspire women! Let’s show My First Suit the difference we can make in the life of many other women! If you feel so inspired, share this with your girlfriends, colleagues and family and see how you may fill your treasure chest of goodies to give way. Please bring your donation to the AGM where a representative of My First Suit will graciously accept our gifts.
It’s that time of year when we have our WBN membership drive. The WBN is going through an exciting evolution that you won’t want to miss. The executive and many committees that keep WBN going strong have excellent ideas to bring new benefits to members and create an even stronger, more supportive (and vibrant) community promoting the work and leadership of Ottawa’s brightest businesswomen – that includes you!
Visit the WBN website today to join and be a part of a truly fabulous community of businesswomen in Ottawa!
If you haven’t made it out to a Breakfast Mix and Mingle in a while, be sure to sign up for July. We’re very pleased to welcome Dr. Melissa Baird of the Glebe Chiropractic clinic, who will be strutting her stuff talking about our July theme, “everything natural”.
Elizabeth Kilvert launched her first business ‘The Unrefined Olive’ in Ottawa on November 2012 and has created a wonderful clientele of home cooks, people who love to eat, individuals seeking nutritional products, restaurant owners, and anyone who ventures into the store.
The Unrefined Olive is Ottawa’s first Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar tasting bar. You can sample 50 fresh premium olive oils from up to seven different countries. All balsamic vinegars are aged minimum 12 years and are from Modena, Italy and there are a wide variety of expressions in fig, cranberry pear, pomegranate, white grapefruit or dark chocolate. There are also flavour-fused olive oils where the olives have been crushed with a variety of citrus fruits, hot peppers, or herbs.
“We love to spend time talking with our customers about culinary pairings, nutritional value, and the uses for all of these beautiful products. It’s a lovely adventure.”
Elizabeth is a certified Oleologist, like a sommelier for olive oil, through the ONAOO school in Italy and she loves going to International Olive Oil Competitions to meet producers and taste their wares.
The premise of her business also includes giving back to the community and contributing to a greater growth and loyalty in the small business community.
Elizabeth is a Board Member of The Glebe BIA and Chair of the Marketing Committee, she also participates in larger Ottawa BIA initiatives to highlight and showcase the diversity of business districts and business types.
When not in her shop Elizabeth can be found on the road at community and food based festivals touting the benefits and deliciousness of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. When home Elizabeth enjoys making delicious food and trying to keep up with the weeds in her garden.
Contact Karen Wilson (Karen@wellmanwilson.com) if you have something you’d like to see included in the newsletter. The deadline to submit is the 15th of each month.
