WBN’s Businesswoman of the Year

The BYA Gala Committee along with Nextwave Events provided an evening of great celebration with the Businesswoman of the Year Gala. Once again (30 years later) this premiere event didn’t fail to impress. We look forward to next year’s gala, which will, without doubt be equally impressive.

WBN members, finalists and their families, colleagues and friends, WBN partner sponsors, media sponsors, event sponsors were unanimous in their delight for the evening.

Roger’s videos were outstanding. The Ottawa Business Journal devoted editorial space to the finalists. Both these important sponsors have contributed to the success of the gala.

Our deepest gratitude to those members who worked tirelessly to create and execute this premiere event: Mary Breton, Bev Carroll, Marie Fraser, Laura Gibbs, Liz Jones, Lesley Lang, Heather Maclachlan and Diane Merpaw.

Marketing & Communications Committee: Don’t want your photo taken?

One of our jobs is to update our online community on the different events that WBN hosts. And as part of that task, the Marketing & Communications Committee often takes photographs at the events. We wanted to let you know that if you come to one of our events, chances are someone will snap your picture and more than likely post it to Facebook and Twitter when we do event updates and follow-ups.

WBN understands that you may not wish your photo published online; if that’s the case, all you have to do is let us know, and we will not take your photo or post it online.

Member Spotlight: Tammy Thompson

tammy_thompson.jpgTammy Thompson is currently employed with Tanner Insurance, a third generation community-driven brokerage as their Group Marketer.

She obtained her Quebec insurance license at the University of Sherbrook in ’93 and subsequently the Registered Insurance Broker of Ontario license in 2005.  Over the past 20 years, Tammy has completed a PMI course, worked all levels of office environments while acquiring sales and marketing skills and now specializes specifically in providing preferred and VIP customer service for group members. She continues to build through new Group relationships with a goal of helping individuals save money on insurance.

Outside the corporate world, Tammy has served as entertainment liaison for several festivals throughout Toronto/Ottawa and Montreal for the past 10 years. As a result of her mother receiving a double lung transplant in 2010, Tammy has been a strong advocate and promoter of Organ donation (please log onto beadonor.ca).  She also heads the annual Christmas hamper program and live feed with CHUO. 89.1 for collection and distribution of assigned families hampers.

Being a mother to children Derek, Jurnay an Ocean, has certainly helped develop her professional and nurturing skills to tackle the above.

Her organizational skills spill over into her children’s activities through most specifically being a Cheer Elite and Soccer Mom. Other than Networking, Tammy carves out some personal time to enjoy a good book, hit the greens and gather with friends and family.

Her favorite quote: “Live and let live’.
