Call for Nominations – 30 years of Businesswoman of the Year Awards

Thirty years ago, the WBN started the tradition of recognizing the accomplishments of women who live, work and play an active role in business operating within the National Capital Region. It used to be a single award for one deserving entrepreneur but as times change and business women move into different fields, there is now an award for an entrepreneur, a professional or a woman in the corporate arena.
Nominations are now open! Nominating is as simple as providing the name and contact information for the exceptional woman you wish to nominate. Take the time to fill out the form and recognize an outstanding woman in business with your nomination today!
Submit your nomination with the online nomination form, forward it to colleagues, friends or clients, or download our advertisement to post or distribute in your place of business.

Nominees do not have to be a WBN member to qualify, nor are nominations required to be made by WBN members. Let’s celebrate the accomplishments of women in our community. Help us recognize their contributions and the success they have achieved across the diverse demands of women in business today.  Act now – nominations close on Monday, November 19, 2012.

If you require more information, please contact the WBN BYA Nominating & Awards Committee by email at  nominations@womensbusinessnetwork.ca or by phone at (613) 749-5975, ext. 251.

WBN’s Businesswoman of the Year: 30 years of volunteers and sponsors!

This year is the 30th Anniversary of the WBN Award and Gala. The Businesswoman of the Year Award has been given to 43 businesswomen. The organization has celebrated close to 160 successful finalists. The WBN is indebted to sponsors who have made remarkable contributions. To begin to estimate the number of volunteer hours that have made the award possible in 30 years is a monumental task that would ultimately reflect an entrepreneurial passion not seen in any other business network; a powerful organization. Look for more to come on the BYA Gala in the coming months!

Program Committee Update: Recent and Upcoming Events

Lisa Anna Palmer attended the Speed Networking event on October 16. Lisa reported that she had a great time, and got to ‘know’ a number of ladies in a short period of time. Most valuable, however, was hearing a different perspective on ‘pitching’ your business/yourself/your idea to a stranger. The idea of asking questions and listening to the answers to adapt our pitch to each individual was certainly a different approach. By just talking to the person we hope to ‘pitch to’ we learn about them, and can adapt our questions and the conversation to find the answers we need. Lisa had heard Erin Crotty speak about perfecting our elevator pitches and delivering it in 30 seconds. The end result is that when you learn BOTH techniques we can’t help but win. So it’s important to perfect our 30-second ‘elevator speech’ so that we are prepared, but also ask questions to then adapt our pitch to best suit each situation. Overall, this was an event that delivered – we came away with a lot of useful knowledge, and had a good time practising.
