September was an exciting and busy month for the WBN! We kicked things off with the launch of our brand new event – The Wine Down. If you didn’t make it out last month, I encourage you to sign up for the October or November Wine Down.
The Wine Down format provides the opportunity for you to concentrate on networking with a smaller group of businesswomen through Business Brilliance Circles. Then everyone in each group has the opportunity to showcase their expertise as we help a member with a specific business problem. It’s a great format for learning and building relationships that I believe will be very popular.
I attended our inaugural Wine Down last month and I’ll be there this month as well. I’m very excited about this event because it’s so valuable to everyone who attends. Our Programming Committee has done a stellar job with launching this new event.
So, buy your tickets soon, before they’re all gone!
The 2015 AGM
Every September, we have the WBN’s AGM. This is arguably the most important meeting of each year and I was pleased to see so many members were able to attend. We heard about all the fabulous work that has been done by all the Committees. Then our Treasurer, Janet Riehm, presented the overview of the financial statements for the 2014-15 fiscal year.
Finally, we accepted the nominations for the new members of the Executive and Board. The WBN’s new leadership team is now posted on the website, so take some time to get familiar with who they are and get to know them. We’re here to help if you ever have a comment, question, or concern. We want to hear from you!
For anyone who is looking to get more involved in the WBN – you really do get more out of it when you do – check out all the committees and see if one makes sense for you to join and lend your expertise.
Daring to grow forward in your business
October is here now, and summer – the official one on the calendar – is over. (And the extended warm weather seems to be going away now, too.) While I personally hope the snow holds off as long as possible, I love this time of year. We’re back to a routine and moving new projects along. It’s the perfect time to start thinking about selling yourself and your business, our theme for this month.
It’s easy to look at popular media and think about the stereotypical used car salesman and write off the act of selling. The reality is that selling in its most useful, pure form, is about helping. We develop a brand that encompasses what we are known for, the things we do, and the interests or skills we have. Selling services can be a natural extension of that brand.
This month’s theme is rather appropriate after September’s theme of daring greatly. Many businesswomen are hesitant to sell or tend to undervalue what they have to offer. So, I’m thrilled that our October events will help members and guests overcome some of the challenges they have related to sales. Be sure to register early so you don’t miss out!
