What do you hope to give or receive from your membership in the WBN?

First and foremost the WBN creates a great community of female professionals that are genuinely interested in connecting and helping each other out. The WBN has consistently offered events and venues to bring people together in meaningful ways that range from deep knowledge sharing, supportive networking through to social connections that help create bonds that can last over long professional careers.

What’s the business advice you would give today to your younger self?

If I was advising my 20-year-old self (not that I would listen to my older self), I would say not to be overly focused on the end-game or outcome, but rather embrace what’s in front of you now with all the experiences and surprises. I would tell myself to behave in a way that’s in my nature and guided by my passions.

Who would be invited to your dream dinner party?

First it would be a dinner party with a bunch of ladies. I’d invite my mom – so I can stop just having conversations with her in my mind.  Lost her too early, miss her and have many things still to ask.

Belinda Gates – an accomplished professional who morphed herself into world leading philanthropist under what might have been a shadow of her husband….but she shines in her own light.  I would be interested in who she is and how she has centered herself and her family.

Barbara Frumm – I know, a strange one, but she was a woman who was formidable and was provocative and unflappable interviewer at a time when men dominated the message.  I just know that when she passed away I was really moved; saddened enough to write her family and send my condolences (the first time for someone I did not know personally). I bet she has some really interesting stories to tell.

My daughter – she just is part of any table I am at and has the most curious mind – I would just enjoy watching the dialogue.

What’s one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?

I started out my career doing research work in the North and working on creating a glacial map of Ungava Bay.  A long way literally and figuratively from being a business person starting a technology company and a professional business services company.
