Sometimes you have a problem that feels impossible to solve. It’s so large that your training and knowledge cannot, in that moment, come to your rescue. Recently, as I took my mother (who has terminal cancer) into the clinic for blood tests, she asked me three different times: “What is the point of all of this, Cam?”
As I grappled with my mother’s question and struggled to find an answer, my intuition suggested instead to remain silent and sit with the problem. Sometimes problem solving means not seeking out a resolution. Sometimes, the resolution needs to find you instead. What happened after that was really quite amazing. I didn’t have the words to help her suffering, but in time the words were given to me – interestingly enough – by the CBC . . .
